Presented as part of NGA's Glass & Glazing Design Academy curriculum with Architectural Record.
Keeping Pace with Technology
New design and installation tools have moved the glazing industry into the future.
The use of technology in commercial construction often starts and ends with the design software the architect uses. However, innovative solutions in the glazing industry have introduced various interesting and unique technologies specifically designed for specifying and installing glass. This webinar will explore the use of technology in the changing face of building design. Speakers will discuss the use of high-resolution 3D laser scanning and photogrammetry. This new design software can provide precise measurements and detailed models of building facades to enable accurate glass fitting and reduce errors during specification and installation. The webinar will also explore the use of AI to enhance and expedite design plans and provide an overview of custom-built robotics that can install large, unitized fenestration faster and safer than traditional methods.
Learning Objectives
- List some of the new technologies available to architects that can help design and specify glazing options in commercial environments.
- Evaluate current design software that incorporates 3D laser scanning to render design options that are meant to improve the health, safety, and comfort of occupants.
- Discuss the benefits and common myths associated with incorporating AI into the commercial glazing design process.
- Explain how innovative robotics are enabling faster, more accurate, and safer installation of curtain walls and glazing in multi-story commercial projects.
